Contracted Archives Internship
Parker’s second internship while at FIT was through a private collection. She worked with an estate home on Long Island. She worked independently under the supervision of her employer to catalog and manage the collection, which was comprised of haute couture garments from the 1950s through to the 1970s. She created an excel sheet that kept track of each object, created condition reports, photographed the objects, and assisted in the creation of a private catalog book for the family. Parker worked to rehouse the entire collection, which was comprised of roughly 160 objects, ensuring they were correctly hung on padded hangers and covered in muslin garments bags. For accessories, such as shoes, hats, and bags, she ensured supports were updated to archival grade material to ensure their longevity. In addition, she assisted in conducting research on objects and contacting the Dior Galleria in Paris, France for her employer to discuss pieces in the collection. Parker helped with digitizing family photos and memorabilia for all family members to easily access. The last project Parker worked on was researching various military medals acquired by family members to make a master list document to be used for reference and shared amongst others.
